Meet JIVANA

There are only 2 PADI certified mermaid instructors currently in Costa Rica. JIVANA is one of them!

Mermaid culture is still young in Costa Rica but it will soon be an aquatic-excursion pasttime similar to scuba, snorkeling, and freediving.

JIVANA was trained by Jewels Diver in Cozumel (a previous record holder for the U.S. National freediving team and advisory board member for PADI mermaid certification program). As prescribed by the PADI international Mermaid certification process, safety is highly important as there are risks to in-water mermaid experiences just like scuba or freediving. In fact, it was through a personal experience that JIVANA realized safety considerations should be taken seriously within the growing mer-culture

and inspired her training. Taking photos on land is one thing. Swimming around with your legs bound in tail-form is quite another.

Sheroically founding a nonprofit in 2007 called Green Wave, JIVANA is a longtime Earth-activist, tantra-yoga teacher, raver, author and educational content-creator.

JIVANA's primary interest in mermaid culture is the spiritual journey it can elicit and enhance through

playful discipline and activism (which of course includes more time in and tending to our Oceans).
